Empty leg

When a customer hires a private jet flight, the aircraft may be required to go to another location to pick up the person; as a result, this connecting flight, often known as a ferry, is deemed “empty leg”. Flights with an empty seat on board have departure date and time, the aircraft type, and the final destination pre-determined. In most cases, the details of an empty leg flight are not made public until a few days before the flight is scheduled to take off; therefore, some operators refer to it as last-minute private jet flights. Other names include one leg, return leg, and dead leg.
